Endowment Fund
Christ Lutheran’s Endowment Fund has been established to provide a way for people to make gifts in perpetuity (lasting forever!) to the work of the Church. These gifts may come from a life insurance policy, a bequest named in a person’s will, or special gifts of cash, stock, real estate, commodities, or other things of value. When non-cash gifts are received, they will normally be sold as soon as the market seems reasonable and the cash added to the Endowment.
The Endowment Fund is managed by a five-member board, elected by the congregation. Guided by Scripture, and the written by-laws and policies of the Endowment Fund, the board seeks to make investments that will protect the principal of the fund and produce income at a reasonable rate. Each year the Endowment Fund Board will review the return on the past year’s investments, decide how much to keep for continued growth of the fund, and how much would be available for projects related to Christ’s ministry in this congregation, through our synod, and throughout the world.
The general policy of the Endowment Fund will be to sell or otherwise convert to cash any non monetary gifts. Disposition of a non monetary gift shall be done in a commercially reasonable manner and under circumstances which will be in the best interest of the Endowment Fund.
The Endowment Fund will not be used for ongoing expenses of the congregation, but for special non-budgeted opportunities for mission. Some of the recent projects funded by the Endowment Fund have been:
- The Jesus Storybook Bible given to young families
- 12 copies of the Jesus Storybook Bible given to our companion parishes in South Africa
- A digital video recorder to record worship services for broadcast
- A video-based marriage enrichment Bible Study, “Marriage: Built to Last”
